Maple Grove church plans 'Blessing of the Backpacks'

As most students -- and certainly most parents -- know by now, the first day of school is right around the corner. Back-to-school advertisements are everywhere. Signs are posted reminding people of supply lists and ice cream socials. In step with those things, Maple Grove United Methodist Church will host a "Blessing of the Backpacks" this Sunday, Aug. 23. Children of the congregation and the neighborhood are welcome to have their backpacks blessed at either the 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. services at the church, on the southwest corner of Henderson Road and North High Street. Church members have been collecting donations of back-to-school supplies, to give to low-income families. Those also will be blessed by the Rev. Bill Croy.
